Hi Kellen,

MR T here. You asked me to give you some instructions on how to make the drums I made when I was a University.

They are quite simple really.

Making a set of Tube drums

The goal is to make three drums which produce a different tone and each give a different sound.

First you will need:

A piece of PVC piping with a diameter of approcimately 11cms and 60cms long
Two nuts and bolts
Some brown paper
Wall paper glue
and paints
Duck tape

First you cut the PVC into three pieces. One 30cms another 20cms and the last one 10cms

Next you cover the diameter of each drum top with layers of brown paper that has been soaked in the wall paper glue. You should do about 4 layers on one drum then let it dry. While that drum is drying you can do the other two the same way.

You should repeat this about 4 or 5 times on each drum. The thicker the layers of paper the different tone that the drum will produce.

When the drums are dry cover the edges of the drums around the outside of the pvc with duck tape to give a nice finish.

Next drill a whole on a side of each drum so that you can attach each drum together by placing the bolts through the holes and tighten together with the bolt. The bolts should be on the inside of the drums .

Last but not least is to paint your drums. This is where you can be creative.

Make sure you let the brown paper dry before you play them and when they are dry makes sure you don't hit them too hard as the paper can break, like mine, but all is not lost as you can recover them again.

Look forward to seeing your creation.
